Remixing musical movie classics is a risky business… copyright issues kill the creatives… nevertheless this Australian mad man who calls himself Pogo has done a few very nice jobs, such as this wonderful classic “charlie and the chocolate factory” video remix:

The so-called war on terror in the last few years has led to the demonization of Arab culture in the Western world. A lot of people start to see raging fundamentalists when they think of the Arab world. The reality tells a different story. These are a few MTV Arabia commercials to prove the Arab world is blessed with a great sense of humour:

In the wonderful world of rock’n'roll there are always mad spirits around and therefore many men are needed to tame them. A master of the garage punk rock exorcism is this man: Reverend Beat-Man. A nice guy who turns into a monster or monsters when released on stage. Here is one video to proof the madness:

This mad man also runs the infamous Voodoo Rhythm Record label.

Let’s scratch them videos…! The technology is here, but still there are very few video scratch wizards on this planet. Here is one from the Battlejam label:

It will be interesting what we will see in the future, when Serato Scratch, Pioneer DVJ, Numark Virtual Vinyl and all the other music scratch soft- and hardwares will not just be used for DJing, but also for VJing.

Calligraphy, especially Arab and Eastern Asian calligraphy, can be a perfect base for animation movies. Those letters actually seem to scream: “Move us. Make us dance…!” Still it seems there are not that many calligraphic animation films you can find on the world wide web of videos. Here are a couple of nice ones though:

Another example of animated Arab words is the audio-visual performance “Ya Sharr Mout” (Arab: depending on the pronounciation this means either “son of a bitch” or “oh, evil, die”) by Lebanese composer Mahmoud Turkmani and the author of this video log. This work, which has been censored in many Arab countries, can be purchased at Enja Records.
